Switching to VoIP

Switching from traditional ‘landline’ systems to a VoIP service is easy and cost-effective. For those looking to set up a new system in a new office, you might be able to order new equipment that makes the system even more cost effective.

Switching to a VoIP system requires three things:

  • High Speed Internet Connection - Since the system uses the internet for calls, a sufficiently fast internet connection is essential. Your system must be able to support the added calls and faxes that the system will create. Some things to consider are your business size, your call volume, and which features you will utilize. A VoIP provider will test your connection before installing the other system components to see if any upgrades are necessary.
  • VoIP Adapters - If your business is already using a traditional phone system and you want to still use your current phones, adaptors can be purchased to allow this. These convert your traditional phones to VoIP-ready phones, and usually cost less than $50 each.
  • VoIP Phones - VoIP phones are more expensive, but they are a good investment if you plan to utilize the system for a long time. They are designed to work with internet based systems, and are easy to install and use. A VoIP phone can cost into the hundreds of dollars, depending on the model.

VoIP providers can provide a price quote for equipment like phones and adaptors, and can suggest ways, if necessary, to improve your internet connection, or find a new connection that is more compatible with Voice over Internet Protocol systems. Once you’ve decided on the proper equipment for your business, you can have the system installed and begin to enjoy it.

Switching to VoIP is as easy, but usually involves upgrading your current internet service to accommodate a VoIP system. You’ll pay one bill for internet and phone VoIP service, and since it is quickly installed, the new system can be functional within days.
