Wales Getting Broadband Makeover

The Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) business is moving full-steam ahead in Wales as 2012 descends around the world.

Reports indicate that those businesses operating VoIP solutions in the country will benefit from a broadband makeover.

According to communications service provider BT, it will invest in 33 communities around Wales in an effort to better the infrastructure and increase online speeds.

Altogether, approximately 130,000 premises are expected to benefit from the roll out of the latest technology and upgrades, due to be noticeable by the summer of 2012, which ironically is the time nearby London will be hosting the 2012 Olympics.

The roll out is expected to assist many local businesses, as the Wales Tourism Alliance recently highlighted the slow rates for the inability of many Welsh companies to compete in their selected markets.

Among the areas slated to benefit from the upgrade are Kidwelly, Aberystwyth, Gilwern, Brecon, Denbigh, Menai Bridge and Treorchy.

The latest BT investment will reportedly result in speeds of 20 Mbps being available to many areas in Wales – more than twice as fast as the connections enjoyed by most UK residents and companies.

Individually, the private sector will bring superfast broadband to approximately two-thirds of UK households, while the extra public funding is geared towards making business investment more viable.

Secretary of state for culture, Olympics, media and sport Jeremy Hunt told the media "Superfast broadband is essential if businesses are to grow and create new jobs. It is increasingly important for the way we deliver public services and to our everyday lives."
