Nexus One Sees New VoIP app via Truphone

Truphone announced Friday the updated release of a VoIP app that is compatible with the Android platform,Truphone v3.0.2, and is the newest VoIP app to be compatible with Nexus One. This makes Truphone compatible with a total of 5 Android devices. It has also been reported that Truphone worked with Google on the app.

Karl Good, the director of applications for Truphone has stated that, “Google has been very helpful in working with the Truphone team to allow us to provide our award- winning solution to the growing number of Nexus One owners. Once again it is a testament to Truphone that we are the first to be able to offer this technology to consumers.” The app allows a user to conduct Wi-Fi calls, has an IM client and of course offers lower long distance and international rates. It is available for free at the Android Market.

Some people are wondering what this app is going to do to Google Voice and its compatibility with Nexus One. It seems Google is still getting all the "kinks" out of the app and Truphone may be a better alternative. But as of right now it is hard to say which app is better, being both are so new.

Truphone is not the only mobile VoIp phone systems provider to come out with a new app in the recent months. Matrix, has come out with a new VoIP app compatible with the iPhone called V. Although this app isn't free, the cost is cheap at $1.99 and can be found in the App Store. Because the app is not locked to a fixed IP phone system provider this could be beneficial for many VoIP providers and their customers.

With more and more people making the switch to smart phones, it is soon going to be who can provide the best apps in the race for best smart phone. Advances seem to be happening fast for all smart phones, and it is hard for many people who aren't tech savvy to keep up.
