HD VoIP: Could It Be More Than Just Clearer Phone Calls?

Could 2010 be the year HD VoIP gains popularity? The debate seems to be ongoing, but it is looking like experts are predicting consumers will find it more useful than business owners for the moment. Why is that? It could be because HD VoIP (and VoIP in general) may be able to support music and video, especially for mobile devices.

Nimbuzz, the largest global communications platform for IP-based communication on mobile phones, already has in place a software program that enables mobile app developers to add HD VoIP to their Android apps. These types of applications could gain enough popularity to really get the HD VoIP movement up and running.

AudioCodes director of market research, Alan Percy believes, " This year will, indeed, be the year that HD VoIP does finally get some legs. We’re seeing HD-capable hardware maturing, software applications that support HD, and both enterprise and service provider pilots around the globe. Once you hear it, you will be hooked, too."

Skype is unleashing their newest software called Skype Beta 4.0 for Windows. It will allow users to hear a smoother and richer video calling quality. Skype Beta 4.0 will also be pre-loaded on TV's as well--including Panasonic’s line of 2010 VIERA CAST and LG’s 26 new LCD and plasma HDTVs with NetCast Entertainment Access allowing you to make phone calls from your living room.

With mobile apps like Nimbuzz's HD VoIP app and Skype leading the way for HD VoIP services, we could see a gaining popularity among the consumer crowd. This past year has seen many advancements in telephony and many people are turning away from traditional phone systems--will 2010 do the same?
